Alicante VISUAL CULTURE / DESIGN GLOBALES_ REWRITE THE HISTORY OF ART?

SATURDAY 5 MARCH 2011
10-14hrs and 17-21hrs

Arts Santa Monica La Rambla 7 / Barcelona / 08002

The debate proposed for this fifth edition focuses on the way in which globalization has been questioned, reinventing or disrupting the discourse of difference. The ambiguities and false universalism of so-called 'feminism' and 'post-feminism' global
will therefore be the starting point and the object of criticism of this symposium. As

try to outline along this journey, the South-South dialogue and diversification of new forms of knowledge production, not based or consensus-building or in the identification a unique and unambiguous political agenda, have meant a radical epistemic shift, which has implications core as the basis of certain disciplines (such as geography, anthropology, sociology, art history, etc..) or future of certain fields of study (such as visuality, identity, production / reproduction of culture, etc.) refers.

How does feminist art history the problem of intersectionality? How can articulate demands globally diverse as Chicano feminism, those of 'black feminism', the Caribbean feminism, the feminism of the crowd, etc. unbuilt Universal false and without perpetuating the Eurocentrism of liberal feminism? Finally, as suggested by Angela Dimitrakaki (one of our invited to this symposium) how can reactivate the project of a feminist method materialistic while the art world in particular and for the production of knowledge in general?
